Minimum Configurations

The following information describes the minimum requirements for each of the NetShow Theater Server components. The "Capacity Planning" chapter of Microsoft NetShow Theater Planning Guide describes the recommended hardware requires for larger video servers.

NetShow Theater Title Server Computer

Server-side logging may require more storage, depending on the number of client connections. Development systems, or other single content server systems can be installed on a 133 MHz or 166 MHz Pentium computer.

NetShow Theater Content Server Computer

Systems support from 1-12 content servers. For small configurations, the title server and content server logical processes can run on the same physical PC. In this case, the Title Server must be equipped with a second media adapter for content drives.

Total video content storage determines amount of disk space required and the number of disk drives. A single content server can have multiple media adapters.

NetShow Theater Administrative Workstation Computer

You may want to install the client on the Administrative Workstation to preview content. If you install the client, follow the minimum hardware requirements for NetShow Theater client computer.

NetShow Theater Client Computer

Network Switch

Requires one port per server and client.

NetShow Theater also runs on Digital Equipment Corporation's Alpha family of computers. Contact Send an e-mail message to sgeorge@mail.dec.com for equivalent configurations.
